Text

Thursday, May 1 at 4pm, Malaga Cove Library is honored to present for Holocaust Remembrance Day, “Memories of a Holocaust Survivor” by Mr. Robert Geminder, educator and Polish-born Holocaust survivor.

About the author:

Robert was born in Wroclaw, Poland in 1935.  His normal life ended when he was four and the Germans forced his family from their home.  Robert, his mother and brother survived the war in Poland. They escaped from the Stanislaw Ghetto and escaped from a train that was just 100 yards from Auschwitz.  Robert had many experiences during that six year period which somehow enabled him to stay alive.

After the war, Robert and his family escaped from Poland to West Germany and finally in 1947 arrived in the USA. Robert graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as an Electrical Engineer.  Following an Army obligation, he moved to the Los Angeles area in 1958.   Robert changed careers at the age of 69 and went back to school while teaching full time.  He graduated Loyola Marymount University in August of 2007 with a Master’s degree in Education and a California teaching credential.  Presently, he teaches Math and Science at Saint Mary’s Academy in Inglewood. Robert is married to Judith and has three children, Mindy, Ellen and Shia.
