Dialogue Project: Inspirational Public Art

Text

The Palos Verdes Library District is pleased to present the traveling art exhibit called Dialogue Project to the Peninsula community.  Consisting of large door-sized panels covered with thousands of inspiring, insightful quotes from people throughout history, Artist Mike Garibaldi Frick's public art installation will open at Peninsula Center Library, Saturday, July 12 and continue through Sunday, July 13.  The documentary film screening about Dialogue Project will close the show, Sunday from 3pm to 5pm in the Peninsula Center Library Community Room.  Welcome to the Dialogue Project.  The first installation took place in San Francisco's Union Square on January 12, 2005; since then Dialogue has traveled to New York, Portland, and many other cities.  Installed in busy public spaces where a high level of pedestrian traffic flows, Dialogue intercepts and engages, causing people to interrupt their routine and reflect on the inspirational messages that cover the screens. Since its inception, Dialogue has reached an estimated audience of over 200,000 and many more via the mass media.  To learn more about this incredible public artwork, visit the website at www.dialogueproject.net In 1990 Mike formed EvolveArts to bring provocative public art installations out of galleries and museums and into open, public spaces for everyone to enjoy and interpret. The installations are designed to catalyze action, rekindle human connection and stimulate thoughtful and positive attention on important social issues by weaving together art, culture, community and media in constructive forums. Mike graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with honors in the Social Sciences where he focused on studies in art, politics and the media. As an innovative, contemporary social artist, he has gained critical acclaim from patrons, media and community members. About the film:  Creation of Dialogue and the national tour was covered by award winning documentary crews. The documentary film highlights the cross country adventure, event installations and reactions from the audience. Dialogue and its crew travel across the United States, visiting over 9 diverse cities, including: Chicago, San Francisco, DC, Denver, Santa Fe and New York. The Peninsula Center Library is located at 701 Silver Spur Road in Rolling Hills Estates. Guests attend free; no reservations. For more information call 310.377.9584 x601
