Library Research Tools for Kids

You will need your PVLD card number to access the resources below:

  • Book Connections - Book guides, reading lists, lesson plans, vocabulary lists, book trailers and meet-the-author movies. 

  • Elementary School Research - A resource for magazine, newspaper, encyclopedia, and book articles on various subjects such as animals, math, and current events.  A very useful source for younger grades, smaller research projects, and a starting point for older student's research.

  • Novelist K-8 Plus - Helps you find recommendations for fiction and nonfiction books to read by searching favorite authors, titles, subjects, and genres. For children in grades K-8. 

  • Britannica School - An online encyclopedia for elementary, middle, or high school; divided by grade level.

  • World Book Student - An online encyclopedia specifically designed to make knowledge accessible and easy-to-find for all kids in elementary through middle school. 

  • CultureGrams - Find social, cultural, and political information on countries, US states, and provinces around the world. 

  • SIRS Discoverer - A database providing reliable, curriculum-aligned content and features for use by students and educators. Covers reading, language arts, current events, science, social studies, history, health and technology. 

  • National Geographic Kids - Explore amazing adventures in science, nature, culture, archaeology and space. Recommended for children ages 6-14.

  • Gale Interactive: Science - An online learning tool where science comes to life as you zoom, rotate and explore interactive 3D models.

  • eBook K-8 Collection - Find full-text titles for K-8 students across all academic subjects from History, to Language and Literature, to Science & Technology.
