The Palos Verdes Library was pleased to host the Palos Verdes High School Advanced Photography Show for a brief period in March 2020. Due to COVID-19 and the library's closure, our PVHS students were unable to share their physical artwork with the community but have come together to share it virtually. PVLD's Art In our Library program thanks these students for sharing their work with us.

Torn Together Alexis Andersen When looking at a person, everyone usually notices a physical appearance first, whether it's their hair, skin, clothes or even faces. Everyone looks at each other with different perspectives or angles. But once you look at someone as a whole you realize not everyone is that different. |

Heavy Pour Zoe Dearborn There are a lot of sad, dark things in the world and many of us work very hard to pour as much light into everything as we can. Sometimes we go too far, we pour too much light in and it is overwhelming. When is the right time and how much is too much? |

Who We Are to Everyone Else Chloe Dowling In the modern age of technology, other people's opinions seem to have a great effect on an individual's identity, character, and personality. The world is always moving and society doesn't always wait for someone to figure out their identity. When an individual is influenced by other people's opinions, they often change to fit the description others give them. In a show about opposites, this photo gives light to how calm we all may look on the outside when in reality, we never know what's going on in someone else's head and we never truly know how large of an impact our words can have on others. |

Baby Formula Zoe Klein With continuous advancements in our society, we often don't think about the consequences we cause the environment. We continue to manipulate our environments to fit our own needs not thinking about how it's affecting the rest of the world. This is what I'm trying to convey in my image representing human versus nature. The fish in the plastic bottle signifies the control we have over the environment, being able to contain things however and whenever we want to. |

Dead and Alive Ellie Pearson In the world, the two simple ways of showcasing life and death are a skull, obvious death, and nature or flowers which represent growth and a new beginning. When taking this photo I wanted a clear delivery of life and death. Making the subject black and white but having the stark contrast of colored flowers creates an intense difference and extreme opposites. A life and death situation is extreme and full of emotion although this photo comes off as calm, the message behind it is far from that. |

Two Faced Maggie Puhl Sometimes our true identity is blocked by our social image. We censor ourselves to fit in, but in reality, our inner mind shines bright. |

Rotten Apple Salvatore Russo The two sides of the photo were taken a week apart. I decided to choose a white background for the healthy side, representing life and purity, and a black background for the rotten side, representing death and impurity. |
