Picnic on the Peninsula
Join us on Saturday, June 15th from 10 am - 2pm a fun-filled day for kids and adults alike!
Guests are encouraged to bring their favorite picnic lunch and make a day of it.
Event will be held at Malaga Cove School Grounds, located at 375 Via Almar, Palos Verdes Estates.
This all-ages event will feature:
• Live performances
• A variety of classic cars
• Music
• Bubbles
• Crafts
• Activities
• Informational community booths
• Photo booth
• Snacks
all provided free of charge!
Live performances by:
Michael’s show has been described as “preposterous brilliance” and “wacky jugglement,” a combination of hilarious tricks and stunts with uproarious stand-up. His signature trick is spinning a Burger King cheeseburger on a parasol which garnered him multiple TV appearances.
PLUS LIVE MUSIC FROM:
South Bay natives and library enthusiasts Emily and Mo are part of a cover band that has played throughout Southern California and will be playing acoustic versions of your favorite songs from the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

How to participate
How to participate:
From June 10th - August 17th, we invite everyone to participate in the Summer @ PVLD challenge!
Complete reading and activities and reach the 1,000 minute challenge, earning entries into our end of summer grand prize raffle. Earn souvenirs throughout the challenge by reaching specific minutes milestones.
Every minute you complete counts! In addition to the individual 1,000 minute challenge, Summer @ PVLD is a community challenge! Help the PV community reach the community goal of completing 1,000,000 minutes this summer!
Some activities ideas include:
• Exploring the outdoors
• Writing ideas or thoughts
• Playing games
• Learning something new
• Exercising and moving
• Watching TV shows/movies
• Discovering your world
• Attending any library program
To join PVLD's 2024 Summer challenge, select one of the two options below:
Option #1:
Come to any PVLD location and pick up a Summer Challenge Log:
Fill in a circle for every 25 minutes spent reading or doing an activity.
Bring the log back to the library every time you reach a 250 minute milestone for a souvenir and a Grand Prize Raffle entry.
Reach the halfway point (500 minutes) by July 15 to be entered in the Midpoint Prize Raffle!
How to Win:
For every 250 minutes you complete, fill out the appropriate raffle ticket, selecting your preferred grand prize for entries into that prize's raffle at the end of the summer challenge. Bring in your raffle ticket to any PVLD branch to be entered and receive a souvenir as well!

But wait there's more! If you reach 500 minutes by the midpoint of the summer challenge (July 15th), you'll receive an entry into our Midpoint Raffle! Select your preferred midpoint prize on the raffle ticket and return to any PVLD branch.
Option #2:
Join the Summer Challenge with the Reader Zone app! To join the Summer Challenge online complete the following:
- Get the App: Download the Reader Zone app (available on Google Play, AND Apple App Store) by searching for "Reader Zone" or scan the QR code below.
- Sign up: Create your account by clicking "Get Started". Enter an email address (required) and create a password.
- Add a reader: Add yourself or another person as a reader. You are able to have multiple readers under one account.
- Enter code: Enter the following 5-character reading program code provided by PVLD. This year's program code is: cc30d
- Join group: Select the Summer @ PVLD 2024 Summer Challenge reading group to join.
- Select your raffle choice: Please select your MIDPOINT PRIZE raffle choice and your GRAND PRIZE raffle choices. (You may edit your selection at any time should you chose to)
- Click Go!: You're ready to start logging minutes! You can also add another reader here or later.
- Log your minutes: Add your completed minutes of reading or activities any time and view your progress!
- View awards: As you progress through the challenge, you'll receive "awards" for every 250 minutes you read or complete activities. You'll be automatically entered into the raffle as you progress through the challenge.
- Claim your souvenirs!: Don't forget to come by to any PVLD location to claim your souvenir! For every 250 minutes completed, you can receive a souvenir! Just show any PVLD staff member your Reader Zone award from your mobile app and provide your first and last name and receive your souvenir(s)!

TIPS:
• On the Manage Account tab, you can edit your account information
• To edit Reader information (such as name or PRIZE selection choice), click on the Settings (gear icon) and select "Edit Reader" and edit your desired information
• You can add or remove readers at any time by clicking the person icon on the top left.
• Completed 1,000 minutes? Keep going! Help us reach our community goal of 1,000,000 minutes! PLUS: You can earn one (1) additional Grand Prize raffle entry for every additional 250 minutes you complete.
• Having trouble or need assistance? Come to any PVLD location to get help!
How to Win:
For every 250 minutes you complete, you'll automatically be entered into the Grand Prize raffle. You can earn up to 10 entries when completing the 1,000 minute challenge.

Completed 1,000 minutes?
Finished the challenge but want to keep going? Earn one (1) additional Grand Prize raffle entry for every additional 250 minutes you complete! Come to any PVLD location and pick up the half-sheet continuation log OR simply continue inputting minutes in the Reader Zone app!

WE DID IT!
Congratulations! We did it! Together, we logged 1,000,000+ minutes of reading, exploring, and more this summer! To celebrate, we'll be handing out free treats at all PVLD locations Saturday, August 17th from 11AM-2PM! Limit of one treat per person while supplies last.

This year we have souvenirs available for all ages upon reaching every 250 minutes of reading or activities for a total of four (4) souvenirs.
In addition, you can enter into our Grand Prize Raffle when reaching every 250 minute milestone! We have one (1) of each Grand Prize that will be raffled off.
PLUS: complete 500 minutes before the midpoint date (July 15) and be entered into our Midpoint Raffle! We have ten (10) of each Midpoint Raffle prize.
