PV Writes Together October 1 - November 18, 2024

Welcome to PV Writes Together!

Calling all writers! PVLD's annual Writing program is back in full swing! Join us for inspirational writing events throughout the months of October/November. Open to teens and adults.

Attend a series of writing events, lectures and workshops at PVLD Libraries. Events will culminate in an Anthology where participants who attend three (3) writing events can submit a 1,500 word project to be published.

How To Participate

  • PV Writes Together encourages writers to work on all types of writing-novels, poetry, nonfiction, memoirs, etc.
  • Registration opens October 1st through November 18th, at any PVLD service desk in person only.
  • When you register you will receive a brochure and writing notebook.
  • Get your brochure stamped for each event you attend.
  • Collect at least three (3) stamps in your brochure for each event you attend. They must be turned in to the reference desk by November 18, 2024 to participate in the Anthology.
  • Published participants will be given one (1) complimentary copy of the Anthology and may participate in a live reading on January 22, 2025. You may purchase additional copies. Details TBD.
  • Registration is not required to attend the events. Only if you want a brochure to stamp and participate in the anthology. Events are open to everyone.

Teen Writing Contest

Join us for the 6th annual Teen Writing Contest! Throughout November, participants in grades 6-12 can respond to a prompt and have a chance to win $100, be published on our website, and have their work read by celebrated author Aminah Mae Safi. Live Anthology Reading

Participate in the reading of your selected writings at the Live Anthology Reading reception. Where you can invite friends and family.

Rules For Participation

1. Register at any PVLD Service Desk and pick up an information packet, October 1st - November 18, 2024. Packet includes a brochure of events and a notebook. You must sign up in person.

6. The submission form will include your writing material for the anthology, along with a 40 word max author biography, uploaded to the form by Saturday, December 7, 2024.

2. Participants must have their brochure stamped at the end of each program they attend in order to qualify for publication in the anthology.

7. PVLD reserves the right to refuse inclusion of materials for publication in the anthology at the discretion of the District Director. Illustrations, photographs and concrete or visual poetry will not be accepted.

3. Participants who attended at least three (3) programs will have the option to submit their work to be included in the PVLD Anthology book. Stamped brochure are due at the Peninsula Center Reference Desk by November 18, 2024.

8. Material will be published as submitted - there will be no further editing for typos, etc. Have a colleague proofread it before submitting.

4. Only material written during the writing month programs will be considered for inclusion in the anthology. Only works with a 1,500 word limit (or 4 pages of poetry) will be accepted.

9. Published participants will be given one complimentary copy of the anthology at the reading on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 event. Pre-ordered copies will be available for purchase at the anthology reading event.
