August 2025 - Featured Spice: Cloves
Take home a spice kit to taste, try a new recipe, and learn and share with other participants.
Spice kits will be available for pick-up at your PVLD branch of choice starting Monday, August 4th!
While supplies last, limit one kit per household.
Spice Kits include a small portion of the featured spice, a program flyer, and a list of suggested recipes and library resources. Kits are recommended for adults wanting to participate in the potluck.
POTLUCK & PRESENTATION with Richard Foss: Drinking with Jane Austen

Join us for a potluck and lecture with special guest Richard Foss. In anticipation of our Jane Austen celebrations in September, Richard Foss will present "Drinking with Jane Austen" (at 2:30 PM).
Jane Austen's books include elaborate banquets and parties, but the author provided few details on what was consumed there and some items she mentioned are unfamiliar to modern readers. This lecture supplies details Ms. Austen left out - what refreshments both alcoholic and non-intoxicating were enjoyed in England of 1800, and how Ms. Austen indicated the character of her characters from the things they chose to drink or serve.
*No registration is required. Spice kits will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Samples may be available on a limited basis and are not guaranteed to everyone in attendance.
